Illegal Blasting
Morning all, the machines have been moved out and away from the blasting, word from a staff member who visited the village this morning is that people are saying that the contractors have gone to fetch the explosives with a convoy and will begin blasting as soon as they return… Only hours left to stop this nonsense of using explosives in a WORLD heritage site - an area of “outstanding universal value”
Good news is that there is a special Rapid Response Force on its way from UNESCO/IUCN to investigate this issue and the court hearing is still set for Friday , latest news is that UNESCO will only be in Malawi at the end of the month. The situation is dire!
However it is obvious the contractors are trying to rush ahead and blow the WHS LMNP up before the RRF team arrive and/or the hearing. This is unacceptable and unethical.
They must wait for the RRF team and/or the hearing before proceeding with any work in the WHS LMNP most of all the use of explosives.
This is the time of the year when all animals give birth and have young as the bush is green and there is plenty to eat, the area they want to blast is their primary sanctuary, there is no other within 10km only field of maize and deforested hills.
No action whatsoever should be taking place in any protected area at this time of the year.
Chief Namakoma wife just passed away and he rules the far side of Namaso. Maybe the contractors will show some respect and not blast when there a funeral but then again when Chief Namasos son passed away last week they just continued working. The community are not impressed at all by the manners displayed by Plem/Alghanim.
